    CONGRESS VACATES - Congress has begun its Summer Recess.  They will be out for five weeks.  Some are hopeful that they will act on Comprehensive Immigration Reform upon their return.

    SENATE PASSES CIR - The Senate has passed S. 744, the 2013 Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill.  The legislative process now moves onto the House of Representatives, which has begun the process of crafting its own version of CIR.

    AILA ANNUAL CONFERENCE - MU Law attorneys will be participating in the American Immigration Lawyers Association's Annual Conference in San Francisco.  This year's event is expected to draw thousands of immigration attorneys from across the globe.

    WASHINGTON BOUND - MU Law is heading to Washington DC to speak with Congressional staff about Comprehensive Immigration Reform, specifically for the business community.  We have scheduled meetings with both the Senate and House’s immigration leadership teams.

    IACC CINCINNATI - MU Law was proud to attend the Indian American Chamber of Commerce - Greater Cincinnati's third annual Gala.  The event featured many prestigious speakers and several Indian-themed performances.  MU Law is a charter member of the IACC.

    H-1B LOTTERY - As expected, the USCIS received more than the H-1B cap of 85,000 petitions on the very first day of processing.  USCIS will use a lottery to select which petitions will be allowed to seek H-1B status this year.  It is expected that the USCIS will return about 40,000 timely-filed petitions.

    H-1B CAP - The USCIS has announced that the H-1B cap is expected to be reached on the first day.  Any H-1B cap–subject petition that is filed between April 1 and April 5 is treated as a first-day filing.  In accord with this information, MU Law strongly urges all clients to be prepared to file their H-1B cap-subject petitions immediately.

    H-1B CAP EXPECTED IN EARLY JUNE

    Approximately 36,700 H-1B cap-subject petitions have been received as of May, 11, which is the most recent USCIS update. MU currently is projecting that the H-1B cap of 65,000 will be reached around June 10.

    The H-1B cap has opened April 1, 2012.  The H-1B cap allows 65,000 Regular Petitions and 20,000 US Masters Degree Petitions.
